Probe of the Month May 2018

May’s Probe of the Month is an M3 XXT stylus with a 12.7 mm (1/2”) diameter ceramic hemisphere, 3.0 mm diameter carbon fiber stem, and 5.0 mm diameter by 9.0 mm long titanium base.  Overall stylus length is 37.0 mm. Stylus weight is 4.30 grams.

Our client is an aerospace machine shop in the Midwestern US.  They asked us to reduce the stylus weight by removing a portion of the ceramic sphere.  It seems that their CMM’s probing system has a strict weight limit. We avoided it by creating this hemisphere.
