Probing Small: A 3-Step Success Checklist
The Micro-Probing Success Checklist
Stylus performance is non-negotiable. Here is how to ensure accuracy when using styli with diameters of 0.5 mm or smaller.
Working with micro-styli requires a shift in mindset. When your stylus tip is smaller than a grain of salt, standard operating procedures can lead to broken tips. To ensure your 0.5 mm (or smaller) styli perform perfectly, follow this Q-Mark verified protocol:
-
-
Verify Your Probe System Capability: Ensure your probe head is rated for the low touch forces required for micro-styli. High-force modules will likely damage the stylus.
-
Use a Small (8.0 mm) Calibration Sphere: Large calibration spheres can be difficult for micro-styli to touch all over without shank interference. A smaller 8.0 mm sphere provides the necessary clearance for dependable qualification.
-
Lower Dynamic Probing Force: Reduce your dynamic probing force to 20% or less of your standard setting. This will help protect the stylus.
